Packages in Greece: Special Interest packages for groups: SUGGESTED CLIMBING TOUR OF MOUNT OLYMPUS Northern Greece can offer mountain climbing at various parts of Mount Olympus (altitude 2.917 meters) home of the 12 gods. Special guide tour is arranged for excursions of limited number of days with overnight stays at refuge huts located in the mountainous areas of Mount Olympus. During summer time, good possibilities for Alpine and sea vacations. Day 1: THESSALONIKI - LITOCHORO Arrival in Thessaloniki – assistance and transfer to the hotel. Balance of day at leisure. Overnight in Litochoro. Day 2: LITOCHORO - PRIONIA - MOUNT OLYMPUS Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning transfer by coach to Prionia on Mount Olympus where there are met with mules to carry their luggage. The next 2 1/2 hours, clients walk to the first refuge hut which is at an altitude of 2.100 meters. Overnight at the refuge hut. Day 3: MOUNT OLYMPUS - MYTIKAS - LITOCHORO Breakfast at the refuge hut. Along with mountain guide, clients walk 2 1/2 hours to peak of Mount Olympus – Mytikas (altitude 2.917 meters) approximately 5 kilometers. Return to the refuge hut for lunch and descend to Prionia where the bus is waiting to transfer to Litochoro. Overnight in Litochoro. Day 4: LITOCHORO - DION - THESSALONIKI Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning departure for a visit to the archeological site of Dion which has brought to light the extensive ruins of the Macedonian’s sanctuary of the gods. Amidst the lush vegetation and springs of the Pierian plain, just before the ascent to Olympus begin the ruins of the sanctuary buildings – the temples, two theaters and a stadium . thousands of Macedonians used to flock to this place for the festivities and games dedicated to the god, which grew in importance after the 5th century B.C. afterwards drive to Thessaloniki, capital of Northern Greece. The city was named after the sister of Alexander the Great and was first settled by her husband Kassandros in 316 - 315 B.C. Nowadays it possesses all the features of a large and modern coastal city which respectfully preserves the remains of a noteworthy past. We shall visit the famous archeological museum which contains finds from Prehistoric to Byzantine times, the crypt of Aghios Dimitrios and pass the ancient walls and the famous White Tower. Overnight in Thessaloniki. Day 5: THESSALONIKI Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the airport. THE PROGRAM IS SUBJECT TO WEATHER CONDITIONS AND SOME PART OF THE TOUR MAY BE CANCELLED AT LAST MINUTE. PROGRAM SHOULD NOT BE SCHEDULED ON WEEK ENDS.
